Please note that this is a highly competitive selection round due to limited funding and all applications are subject to detailed technical and quality assessments.
In 2013, the duration of the approved Assistantships will be capped at a maximum of 25 weeks for approved outgoing Assistants.
Additionally, the following National Priorities apply for the 2013 Selection:
1. Priority for outgoing assistants will be awarded to applicants interested in host schools whose language is less widely used and less taught.
2. Priority will be awarded to applicants who have never been awarded an Erasmus ‘Student Mobility for Studies' grant or an Erasmus ‘Student Mobility for Placements' grant.
3. Priority will be awarded to current students/recent graduates from teacher training colleges or applicants who hold/intend to shortly pursue a Higher Diploma in Education but who have not been formally employed as a qualified teacher.
Applications must be submitted online and a signed hard copy must be sent to Léargas by the deadline (applications cannot be accepted via email). Applications which arrive after the deadline will not be accepted. Applicants are advised to retain proof of postage.
The application form, technical and quality criteria are available on the Resources page for Comenius Assistantships. For further information, please visit the Comenius Assistantshipssection of our website www.leargas.ie.

New series of seven video clips for post-primary students, their parents, and school managers, on the importance of foreign language skills. Each of the video clips has a sub-title and there are: 'Languages for Jobs', 'Languages for Science', 'Languages for the Workplace', 'Languages for Sport', 'Languages for the Arts', 'Languages for Education and Research', and 'Languages for Google'. The videos do not focus on an language in particular but rather on the general value of learning any foreign language. Serious talking heads, scientists, a concert pianist, Trappatoni's interpreter, and trendy young Irish people in the workplace who not only use foreign languages on a daily basis but have got to where they are because of their foreign language skills, all make a strong case for learning foreign languages. We hope that these videos will inspire and encourage more uptake of foreign languages, without which Ireland cannot compete in the global marketplace.
